Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TO:KXS), which rose 5.62% or 3.90 points to trade at 73.28 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 5.38% or 0.45 points to end at 8.82 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) was up 5.36% or 0.140 points to 2.750 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Stars Group Inc (TO:TSGI), which lost 4.20% or 0.90 points to trade at 20.54 in late trade. Lundin Mining Corporation (TO:LUN) declined 2.58% or 0.250 points to end at 9.440 and Aecon Group Inc . (TO:ARE) shed 1.89% or 0.33 points to 17.09.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 716 to 384 and 125 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 12.28% to 12.25.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.95% or 12.43 to $1326.53 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.46% or 1.13 to hit $47.09 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.92% or 1.99 to trade at $52.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.06% to 0.8007, while CAD/EUR rose 0.85% to 0.6725.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 92.61.
