Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.44% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were AcuityAds Holdings Inc (TSX:AT), which rose 10.43% or 1.335 points to trade at 14.135 at the close. Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) added 7.46% or 2.29 points to end at 32.99 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) was up 4.17% or 2.20 points to 55.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH), which lost 3.62% or 1.95 points to trade at 51.89 in late trade. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) declined 2.78% or 0.23 points to end at 8.04 and SunOpta Inc . (TSX:SOY) shed 2.43% or 0.40 points to 16.08.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 576 to 451 and 126 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.98% or 18.65 to $1877.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.74% or 0.52 to hit $70.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $72.60 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.53% to 0.8222, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6793.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 90.545.
