Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.42% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 10.17% or 1.50 points to trade at 16.25 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) added 5.64% or 0.88 points to end at 16.48 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was up 5.45% or 1.45 points to 27.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:ZZZ), which lost 7.47% or 2.07 points to trade at 25.65 in late trade. Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc (TSX:ATDb) declined 2.69% or 1.10 points to end at 39.86 and Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI) shed 2.65% or 1.06 points to 38.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 691 to 354 and 86 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.21% or 21.75 to $1812.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.03% or 0.58 to hit $56.81 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.53% or 0.31 to trade at $59.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.51% to 0.7833, while CAD/EUR fell 0.14% to 0.6506.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 91.037.
