Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.32% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u), which rose 11.01% or 4.30 points to trade at 43.37 at the close. Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) added 9.42% or 0.93 points to end at 10.80 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) was up 7.82% or 0.19 points to 2.62 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which lost 5.85% or 12.23 points to trade at 196.97 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 4.61% or 64.96 points to end at 1343.08 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) shed 4.49% or 0.43 points to 9.14.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 692 to 399 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 0.42% or 8.40 to $2026.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.01% or 0.83 to hit $42.05 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.33% or 0.59 to trade at $44.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7490, while CAD/EUR rose 0.76% to 0.6379.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 93.578.
