Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.24% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL), which rose 5.42% or 0.460 points to trade at 8.950 at the close. Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) added 5.02% or 1.03 points to end at 21.54 and Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) was up 4.91% or 0.52 points to 11.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CannTrust Holdings Inc (TSX:TRST), which lost 21.87% or 0.7500 points to trade at 2.6800 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 5.23% or 0.3100 points to end at 5.6200 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) shed 3.48% or 0.070 points to 1.940.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 618 to 428 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.01% to 9.76 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.31% or 4.45 to $1426.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.53% or 0.87 to hit $55.90 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $63.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7611, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.6829.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.362.
