Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX:WPRT), which rose 6.87% or 0.45 points to trade at 7.00 at the close. Village Farms International Inc (TSX:VFF) added 6.82% or 0.88 points to end at 13.79 and Canaccord Genuity Group Inc (TSX:CF) was up 5.34% or 0.72 points to 14.21 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Winpak Ltd. (TSX:WPK), which lost 3.43% or 1.48 points to trade at 41.70 in late trade. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) declined 3.15% or 0.51 points to end at 15.66 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 3.04% or 0.69 points to 21.98.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 568 to 422 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.42% or 7.45 to $1775.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.16% or 0.12 to hit $73.20 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.29 to trade at $75.48 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.14% to 0.8115, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6803.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 91.802.
