Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD), which rose 10.64% or 0.100 points to trade at 1.040 at the close. Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) added 7.40% or 0.64 points to end at 9.29 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) was up 6.98% or 3.04 points to 46.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which lost 5.62% or 2.53 points to trade at 42.47 in late trade. Colliers International Group Inc (TSX:CIGI) declined 3.02% or 2.77 points to end at 88.97 and Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u) shed 2.90% or 1.44 points to 48.19.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 527 to 514 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.20% to 12.32.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.35 to $1330.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.30% or 0.16 to hit $53.10 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $62.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7528, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6641.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 96.662.
