Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO:GC), which rose 14.99% or 4.48 points to trade at 34.37 at the close. Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL) added 6.65% or 1.150 points to end at 18.440 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was up 6.02% or 1.240 points to 21.850 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inter Pipeline Ltd (TO:IPL), which lost 3.38% or 0.90 points to trade at 25.70 in late trade. Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) declined 3.06% or 0.11 points to end at 3.48 and Crew Energy Inc (TO:CR) shed 2.85% or 0.09 points to 3.07.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 659 to 493 and 142 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.56% to 10.76.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.03% or 0.40 to $1265.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.63% or 0.36 to hit $57.58 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.36 to trade at $63.77 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.10% to 0.7767, while CAD/EUR fell 0.59% to 0.6560.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 93.05.
