Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrials, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were AuRico Gold Inc. (TO:AUQ), which rose 10.68% or 0.36 points to trade at 3.73 at the close. Primero Mining Corp (TO:P) added 10.38% or 0.380 points to end at 4.040 and Lightstream Resources Ltd (TO:LTS) was up 9.89% or 0.09 points to 1.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amaya Gaming Group Inc (TO:AYA), which lost 7.98% or 2.54 points to trade at 29.30 in late trade. Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS) declined 5.68% or 0.13 points to end at 2.16 and NuVista Energy Ltd. (TO:NVA) shed 4.25% or 0.330 points to 7.430.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 785 to 647 and 178 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 0.90% to 17.58.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.57% or 6.60 to $1153.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 0.16% or 0.07 to hit $48.37 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 2.61% or 1.47 to trade at $57.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.46% to 0.7846, while CAD/EUR rose 0.94% to 0.7436.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.06% at 99.66.
