Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumption, Real Estate and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.80% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 2.86% or 0.38 points to trade at 13.68 at the close. Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) added 2.41% or 0.40 points to end at 17.00 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 1.17% or 0.37 points to 32.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 7.01% or 0.34 points to trade at 4.51 in late trade. Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) declined 6.87% or 0.90 points to end at 12.20 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) shed 6.80% or 1.05 points to 14.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 212 to 113 and 28 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.21% to 38.86.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.08% or 12.50 to $1146.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.96% or 2.10 to hit $50.88 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.05% or 1.50 to trade at $144.18 .
USD/BRL was up 1.03% to 3.3701, while EUR/BRL rose 0.15% to 3.5493.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.92% at 102.01.
