Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 4.40% or 0.60 points to trade at 14.25 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 2.73% or 0.30 points to end at 11.30 and Equatorial Energia SA (SA:EQTL3) was up 2.21% or 0.95 points to 44.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which lost 10.05% or 1.12 points to trade at 10.02 in late trade. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 9.77% or 1.65 points to end at 15.23 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 9.01% or 0.21 points to 2.12.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 185 to 132 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.66% to 45.53.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 2.25% or 29.15 to $1264.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.80% or 1.25 to hit $43.41 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.66% or 2.06 to trade at $126.53 .
USD/BRL was up 0.46% to 3.5206, while EUR/BRL rose 0.29% to 4.0079.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 94.11.
