Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.61% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 4.06% or 0.80 points to trade at 20.51 at the close. CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) added 3.87% or 1.32 points to end at 35.40 and Multiplan SA (SA:MULT3) was up 3.28% or 1.56 points to 49.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 5.65% or 0.36 points to trade at 6.01 in late trade. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 4.70% or 0.64 points to end at 12.98 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) shed 4.44% or 0.26 points to 5.59.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 155 to 142 and 6 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.24% to 29.62.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.34% or 4.00 to $1167.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.34% or 2.58 to hit $56.88 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 3.20% or 4.20 to trade at $126.97 .
USD/BRL was up 1.24% to 3.1484, while EUR/BRL rose 0.39% to 3.4803.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.76% at 96.48.
