Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 1.18% or 0.16 points to trade at 13.68 at the close. Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) added 1.04% or 0.25 points to end at 24.40 and Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) was up 0.69% or 0.12 points to 17.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which lost 6.55% or 0.78 points to trade at 11.13 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 6.37% or 0.75 points to end at 11.02 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) shed 5.01% or 0.620 points to 11.760.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 189 to 102 and 19 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.10% to 43.20.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.40% or 5.05 to $1279.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.44% or 0.63 to hit $44.41 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.14% or 1.37 to trade at $121.40 .
USD/BRL was down 0.21% to 3.5416, while EUR/BRL fell 0.94% to 4.0387.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 93.75.
