Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Basic Materials and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.46% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 4.07% or 0.57 points to trade at 14.57 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 3.56% or 0.85 points to end at 24.74 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) was up 1.71% or 0.38 points to 22.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which lost 9.15% or 1.84 points to trade at 18.27 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) declined 7.69% or 1.78 points to end at 21.38 and Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA:SMLS3) shed 6.17% or 4.68 points to 71.12.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 261 to 215 and 35 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.00% to 28.24.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1314.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.36% or 0.25 to hit $69.97 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 1.83% or 2.25 to trade at $120.72 .
USD/BRL was up 0.64% to 3.5509, while EUR/BRL rose 0.34% to 4.2342.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 92.60.
