Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.19%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumption, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.19% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3), which rose 9.48% or 0.96 points to trade at 11.09 at the close. Via Varejo SA (SA:VVAR3) added 9.48% or 0.38 points to end at 4.39 and Log Commercial Properties e Participacoes SA (SA:LOGG3) was up 7.70% or 1.25 points to 17.49 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tim Participacoes SA (SA:TIMP3), which lost 3.77% or 0.49 points to trade at 12.50 in late trade. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 2.56% or 0.41 points to end at 15.59 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) shed 1.43% or 0.08 points to 5.51.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 230 to 194 and 35 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.50% to 31.70 a new 3-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.36% or 4.60 to $1287.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.50% or 0.26 to hit $52.62 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.28% or 1.35 to trade at $103.95 .

USD/BRL was up 0.82% to 3.7108, while EUR/BRL rose 0.46% to 4.2672.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 95.143.
