Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Real Estate, Basic Materials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 3.23% or 0.28 points to trade at 8.94 at the close. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) added 2.20% or 0.95 points to end at 44.10 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was up 1.71% or 0.28 points to 16.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which lost 4.93% or 1.55 points to trade at 29.90 in late trade. CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) declined 3.80% or 0.71 points to end at 17.98 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) shed 2.77% or 0.47 points to 16.52.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 212 to 212 and 42 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 5.62% to 31.56 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.35% or 4.40 to $1244.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.03% or 0.59 to hit $57.95 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 2.04% or 2.50 to trade at $120.22 .
USD/BRL was up 0.40% to 3.3050, while EUR/BRL rose 0.58% to 3.8952.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 93.84.
