Investing.com – Belgium equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Pharma & Bio-technology and Construction and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 fell 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were bpost NV (BRU:BPOST), which rose 0.99% or 0.26 points to trade at 25.93 at the close. Belgacom (BRU:BCOM) added 0.71% or 0.23 points to end at 32.60 and Elia (BRU:ELI) was up 0.31% or 0.125 points to 39.825 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UCB (BRU:UCB), which lost 1.61% or 1.12 points to trade at 68.25 in late trade. Telenet Group (BRU:TNET) declined 1.52% or 0.79 points to end at 51.11 and Cofinimmo-Sicafi (BRU:COFB) shed 1.20% or 1.35 points to 110.75.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 110 to 57 and 4 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.43% or 5.10 to $1196.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.60% or 0.76 to hit $48.27 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.35% or 0.74 to trade at $55.85 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.37% to 1.0965, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.7363.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 97.13.
