Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Gold, Industrials and Telecoms Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Veda Group Ltd (ASX:VED), which rose 31.33% or 0.625 points to trade at 2.620 at the close. Nsreit Stapled (ASX:NSR) added 8.78% or 0.130 points to end at 1.610 and Newcrest Mining Ltd (ASX:NCM) was up 6.94% or 0.820 points to 12.630 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX:PDN), which lost 7.14% or 0.015 points to trade at 0.195 in late trade. Arrium Ltd (ASX:ARI) declined 6.59% or 0.006 points to end at 0.085 and Drillsearch Energy Ltd (ASX:DLS) shed 5.66% or 0.030 points to 0.500.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 533 to 389 and 167 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 6.17% to 23.324.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.96% or 10.70 to $1127.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.09% or 0.51 to hit $46.39 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.65% or 0.32 to trade at $48.76 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.72% to 0.7227, while AUD/JPY rose 0.48% to 86.50.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.10% at 94.72.
