Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Consumer Staples and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.32% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dominion Diamond Corp (TO:DDC), which rose 7.75% or 1.10 points to trade at 15.30 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 5.45% or 0.09 points to end at 1.74 and Crew Energy Inc (TO:CR) was up 5.24% or 0.23 points to 4.62 in late trade.
Biggest losers included West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT), which lost 5.99% or 2.66 points to trade at 41.74 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 5.82% or 0.23 points to end at 3.72 and Torex Gold Resources Inc . (TO:TXG) shed 5.13% or 0.100 points to 1.850.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 771 to 613 and 330 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.98% to 13.06 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.61% or 7.60 to $1246.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.16% or 1.34 to hit $43.81 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.20% or 1.41 to trade at $45.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7900, while CAD/EUR rose 0.66% to 0.6995.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 94.55.
