WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland's government will not support Donald Tusk's candidature for a second term as European Council president, the head of the ruling party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, said.

Tusk, a former head of the liberal, pro-European Civic Platform party, was prime minister for almost two parliamentary terms before resigning in 2014 to take on the top European job.

"The Polish government will not support Donald Tusk for the second term in the European Council," Kaczynski, the head of the Eurosceptic conservative Law and Justice (PiS) that now rules Poland, told Polska newspaper in an interview published on Tuesday.

Poland's government has no formal power to block Tusk. But the comments from Kaczynski could mark a widening split between the two rivals that could complicate his candidacy.
