Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TO:KXS), which rose 9.25% or 5.01 points to trade at 59.19 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) added 8.07% or 0.58 points to end at 7.77 and New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) was up 7.89% or 0.460 points to 6.290 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD), which lost 12.61% or 3.700 points to trade at 25.640 in late trade. Gildan Activewear Inc. (TO:GIL) declined 5.60% or 2.29 points to end at 38.61 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) shed 5.44% or 0.190 points to 3.300.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 646 to 530 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.82% to 13.31.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.55% or 20.65 to $1348.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.35% or 1.01 to hit $41.91 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.01% or 1.36 to trade at $43.87 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7582, while CAD/EUR fell 0.68% to 0.6856.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.43% at 96.75.
