Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.09%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC), which rose 6.77% or 17.40 points to trade at 274.30 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 3.88% or 3.45 points to end at 92.40 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 3.46% or 12.45 points to 372.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB), which lost 2.05% or 3.10 points to trade at 148.10 in late trade. Punjab National Bank (NS:PNBK) declined 1.95% or 2.20 points to end at 110.60 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 1.34% or 2.95 points to 217.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 6.65% to 274.10, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 4.05% to settle at 92.50 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 3.60% to close at 372.85.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 1.35% to 326.05 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 1.22% to settle at 218.25 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.09% to 847.80 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1013 to 441 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 526 rose and 299 declined, while 5 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.79% to 16.7025.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.22% or 2.40 to $1077.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.23% or 0.09 to hit $36.67 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.26 to trade at $36.96 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.00% to 66.611, while EUR/INR fell 0.53% to 71.7590.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 99.27.
