Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 1.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were BG Group (LONDON:BG), which rose 6.74% or 57.50 points to trade at 910.40 at the close. Petrofac (LONDON:PFC) added 5.56% or 53.50 points to end at 1016.00 and Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) was up 5.48% or 15.60 points to 300.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG), which lost 1.17% or 7.00 points to trade at 591.50 in late trade. Direct Line Insurance Group Plc (LONDON:DLGD) declined 0.25% or 0.80 points to end at 318.80 and Burberry Group (LONDON:BRBY) shed 0.06% or 1.00 points to 1714.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2140 to 516 and 452 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.53% or 6.50 to $1212.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.49% or 1.30 to hit $53.44 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.60 to trade at $58.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.4862, while EUR/GBP fell 0.54% to 0.7301.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.71% at 97.90.
