Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Forestry & Paper and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 added 1.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Aberdeen Asset Management Plc (LONDON:ADN), which rose 4.23% or 19.70 points to trade at 485.00 at the close. CRH (LONDON:CRH) added 3.25% or 57.00 points to end at 1809.00 and Persimmon (LONDON:PSN) was up 3.15% or 53.00 points to 1733.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aggreko (LONDON:AGGK), which lost 3.26% or 52.00 points to trade at 1543.00 in late trade. Standard Life Plc (LONDON:SL) declined 1.78% or 8.60 points to end at 473.80 and Shire Plc (LONDON:SHP) shed 1.19% or 65.00 points to 5420.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1827 to 804 and 449 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.69% or 8.30 to $1194.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.59% or 0.80 to hit $51.22 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.82% or 1.56 to trade at $57.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.93% to 1.4730, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.7241.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.90% at 99.14.
