China shares higher at close of trade; Shanghai Composite up 1.66%

Investing.com – China equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Mobile and Media sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite rose 1.66% to hit a new 3-year high, while the SZSE Component index gained 1.78%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were Aucma (SS:600336), which rose 10.07% or 0.720 points to trade at 7.870 at the close. Jiangnan Fiber (SS:600527) added 10.05% or 0.590 points to end at 6.460 and United Network (SS:600050) was up 10.05% or 0.550 points to 6.020 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Boyuan Investm (SS:600656), which lost 5.04% or 0.360 points to trade at 6.780 in late trade. Fujian Nanzhi (SS:600163) declined 2.87% or 0.180 points to end at 6.090 and C&T Tech Dev (SS:600149) shed 2.43% or 0.530 points to 21.290.

The top performers on the SZSE Component were BYD Co Ltd (SZ:002594) which rose 10.00% to 57.64, Iflytek Co Ltd (SZ:002230) which was up 7.50% to settle at 55.90 and TCL Corp (SZ:000100) which gained 7.12% to close at 6.32.

The worst performers were China Merchants Property Development Co Ltd (SZ:000024) which was down 1.49% to 32.45 in late trade, China Vanke Co Ltd (SZ:000002) which lost 0.72% to settle at 13.72 and Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Co Ltd (SZ:000069) which was down 0.10% to 9.64 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 890 to 75 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was down 6.31% to 22.42.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.17% or 2.00 to $1185.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.56% or 0.27 to hit $47.34 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.15 to trade at $54.96 a barrel.

USD/CNY was down 0.01% to 6.1971, while EUR/CNY fell 0.01% to 6.6581.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 98.63.
