Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Metals and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty gained 1.37%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL), which rose 5.89% or 8.30 points to trade at 149.30 at the close. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) added 4.67% or 10.25 points to end at 229.75 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was up 4.41% or 4.15 points to 98.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Idea Cellular Ltd (NSE:IDEA), which lost 3.30% or 5.10 points to trade at 149.40 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NSE:BPCL) declined 1.31% or 11.15 points to end at 837.95 and Lupin Ltd (NSE:LUPN) shed 0.96% or 18.05 points to 1862.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 4.55% to 229.65, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 4.42% to settle at 98.05 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 4.19% to close at 486.40.
The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was down 0.57% to 2329.95 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.56% to settle at 885.35 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 0.02% to 320.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1041 to 383 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 540 rose and 211 declined, while 4 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 9.51% to 24.1150.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.46% or 5.20 to $1128.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.24% or 0.11 to hit $46.14 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.18 to trade at $50.32 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 66.206, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 74.3120.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 95.92.
