Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mobile Telecommunications and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (L:HRGV), which rose 3.66% or 47.00 points to trade at 1330.00 at the close. Intertek Group PLC (L:ITRK) added 2.59% or 65.00 points to end at 2577.00 and Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO) was up 2.47% or 14.00 points to 580.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (L:BDEV), which lost 3.79% or 24.000 points to trade at 610.000 in late trade. Taylor Wimpey PLC (L:TW) declined 3.42% or 6.60 points to end at 186.50 and BT Group PLC (L:BT) shed 3.37% or 14.550 points to 417.200.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1432 to 707 and 428 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.05% or 12.20 to $1177.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.81% or 0.38 to hit $46.28 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.17 to trade at $49.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.30% to 1.5447, while EUR/GBP fell 0.74% to 0.7406.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.59% at 94.25.
