Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Utilities, Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 0.75%, while the SBF 120 index lost 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Safran SA (PA:SAF), which rose 3.73% or 2.07 points to trade at 57.59 at the close. Vinci SA (PA:SGEF) added 0.87% or 0.56 points to end at 65.16 and Publicis Groupe SA (PA:PUBP) was up 0.63% or 0.38 points to 60.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 24.80% or 1.20 points to trade at 3.64 in late trade. Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA:LHN) declined 3.19% or 1.26 points to end at 38.37 and Credit Agricole SA (PA:CAGR) shed 2.55% or 0.270 points to 10.330.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Sopra Steria Group SA (PA:SOPR) which rose 5.83% to 104.00, Zodiac Aerospace (PA:ZODC) which was up 3.83% to settle at 17.75 and Safran SA (PA:SAF) which gained 3.73% to close at 57.59.
The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which was down 24.80% to 3.64 in late trade, CGG (PA:GEPH) which lost 4.05% to settle at 0.71 and Edenred (PA:EDEN) which was down 3.39% to 16.81 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 370 to 281 and 122 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 0.70% to 21.83.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.22% or 15.20 to $1229.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.26% or 0.84 to hit $36.34 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.28% or 0.90 to trade at $38.63 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.06% to 1.1110, while EUR/GBP rose 1.12% to 0.7853.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 96.66.
