Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Lojas Renner SA (SA:LREN3), which rose 7.12% or 1.15 points to trade at 17.30 at the close. BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) added 6.40% or 1.46 points to end at 24.29 and EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA:ENBR3) was up 5.24% or 0.59 points to 11.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which lost 10.36% or 1.44 points to trade at 12.46 in late trade. Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) declined 9.19% or 3.24 points to end at 32.00 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 8.22% or 0.12 points to 1.34.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 144 to 129 and 8 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.41% to 45.32.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.25% or 2.70 to $1077.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.38% or 0.88 to hit $35.88 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.82% or 1.02 to trade at $123.00 .
USD/BRL was down 0.81% to 4.0073, while EUR/BRL fell 1.61% to 4.3057.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.56% at 99.50.
