Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 6.95% or 0.23 points to trade at 3.54 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) added 4.91% or 0.20 points to end at 4.27 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 4.07% or 0.24 points to 6.14 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which lost 3.19% or 0.20 points to trade at 6.06 in late trade. Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) declined 2.92% or 0.76 points to end at 25.25 and Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) shed 2.88% or 0.45 points to 15.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 200 to 117 and 3 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 6.30% to 58.54 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.85% or 20.90 to $1152.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.42% or 0.63 to hit $45.11 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 1.77% or 2.05 to trade at $117.92 .
USD/BRL was down 4.43% to 3.9912, while EUR/BRL fell 4.03% to 4.4796.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 96.12.
