Investing.com – Belgium equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Chemicals, Construction & Materials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 lost 1.69% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were Ageas (BRU:AGES), which rose 0.67% or 0.245 points to trade at 36.675 at the close. Elia (BRU:ELI) added 0.62% or 0.260 points to end at 42.460 and DIeteren SA (BRU:IETB) was up 0.32% or 0.110 points to 34.260 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Delta Lloyd (AMS:DLL), which lost 8.87% or 0.71 points to trade at 7.29 in late trade. Solvay SA (BRU:SOLB) declined 4.74% or 4.51 points to end at 90.62 and Delhaize Group (BRU:DELB) shed 2.97% or 2.29 points to 74.84.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 123 to 31 and 5 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.86% or 21.10 to $1152.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.63% or 0.28 to hit $44.76 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.47 to trade at $48.22 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.54% to 1.1245, while EUR/GBP rose 0.56% to 0.7377.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.43% at 95.98.
