Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Financials and Telecoms Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Seven Group Holdings Ltd (AX:SVW), which rose 14.49% or 1.130 points to trade at 8.930 at the close. Premier Investments Ltd (AX:PMV) added 11.90% or 1.490 points to end at 14.010 and Cimic Group Ltd (AX:CIM) was up 7.98% or 2.880 points to 38.990 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Genworth Fp (AX:GMA), which lost 14.84% or 0.500 points to trade at 2.870 in late trade. Galaxy Resources Ltd (AX:GXY) declined 5.88% or 0.035 points to end at 0.560 and Resolute Mining Ltd (AX:RSG) shed 4.44% or 0.078 points to 1.667.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 608 to 504 and 325 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.23% to 12.576.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.15% or 1.85 to $1234.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.07% or 0.56 to hit $51.61 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.73% or 0.40 to trade at $54.65 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7630, while AUD/JPY fell 0.04% to 85.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 100.41.
