Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 2.98% or 0.15 points to trade at 5.19 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 2.68% or 0.15 points to end at 5.75 and Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) was up 2.49% or 0.67 points to 27.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which lost 3.89% or 0.56 points to trade at 13.84 in late trade. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 2.72% or 0.88 points to end at 31.50 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) shed 2.26% or 1.37 points to 59.23.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 179 to 176 and 34 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.39% to 28.78.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.70 to $1190.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.10% or 0.59 to hit $53.19 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.59% or 0.89 to trade at $152.27 .
USD/BRL was down 1.26% to 3.1378, while EUR/BRL fell 1.02% to 3.3593.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 100.54.
