Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.01% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were British American Tobacco (LONDON:BATS), which rose 2.92% or 99.50 points to trade at 3511.00 at the close. Barratt Developments Plc (LONDON:BDEV) added 2.27% or 13.50 points to end at 609.50 and Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT) was up 2.24% or 71.00 points to 3246.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which lost 2.68% or 124.00 points to trade at 4502.00 in late trade. Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) declined 2.66% or 30.00 points to end at 1097.00 and Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) shed 2.23% or 22.20 points to 972.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1421 to 1169 and 475 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.50% or 5.90 to $1179.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.83% or 0.50 to hit $60.50 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.18 to trade at $63.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.24% to 1.5639, while EUR/GBP fell 0.69% to 0.7182.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.28% at 95.33.
