Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Oil & Gas Producers and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 2.47%, while the SBF 120 index declined 2.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Essilor International Compagnie Generale d`Optique SA (PA:ESSI), which fell 0.17% or 0.20 points to trade at 115.40 at the close. Danone SA (PA:DANO) fell 0.21% or 0.13 points to end at 63.22 and Orange SA (PA:ORAN) was down 0.43% or 0.07 points to 16.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Societe Generale (PA:SOGN), which lost 6.35% or 2.21 points to trade at 32.58 in late trade. BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) declined 5.67% or 2.46 points to end at 40.88 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) shed 5.36% or 0.18 points to 3.25.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Sartorius Stedim Biotech (PA:STDM) which rose 3.50% to 384.00, Euronext (PA:ENX) which was up 1.67% to settle at 44.76 and Orpea (PA:ORP) which gained 0.71% to close at 74.02.
The worst performers were Societe Generale (PA:SOGN) which was down 6.35% to 32.58 in late trade, Maurel Et Prom (PA:MAUP) which lost 5.99% to settle at 2.51 and Natixis (PA:CNAT) which was down 5.86% to 4.208 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 510 to 168 and 89 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 6.94% to 28.42.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.35% or 3.90 to $1124.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 4.35% or 1.38 to hit $30.25 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.34% or 1.15 to trade at $33.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.18% to 1.0908, while EUR/GBP rose 0.40% to 0.7574.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 98.98.
