Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Optoelectronic, Biotech & Medical Care and Chemical/Bio & Medical care sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Tainan Enter (TW:1473), which rose 9.91% or 3.15 points to trade at 34.95 at the close. Sitronix (TW:8016) added 9.90% or 7.90 points to end at 87.70 and Danen (TW:3686) was up 9.90% or 0.95 points to 10.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merida Industr (TW:9914), which lost 4.82% or 8.00 points to trade at 158.00 in late trade. Gourmet Master (TW:2723) declined 3.73% or 8.50 points to end at 219.50 and Logah (TW:3593) shed 2.90% or 0.25 points to 8.38.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 665 to 180 and 4 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 1.97% or 0.66 to $33.92 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 1.84% or 0.62 to hit $34.34 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.51% or 5.70 to trade at $1102.10 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.61% to 33.322, while TWD/CNY fell 0.75% to 0.1976.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.55% at 98.83.
