Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Mining and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN), which rose 6.37% or 30.700 points to trade at 512.700 at the close. Pearson PLC (L:PSON) added 5.16% or 36.50 points to end at 743.50 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) was up 4.91% or 26.50 points to 566.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ARM Holdings PLC (L:ARM), which lost 2.95% or 31.00 points to trade at 1021.00 in late trade. Sports Direct International PLC (L:SPD) declined 1.55% or 9.000 points to end at 570.500 and Mondi PLC (L:MNDI) shed 1.28% or 17.00 points to 1309.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1399 to 775 and 399 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.26% or 13.40 to $1075.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.04% or 1.51 to hit $35.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.80% or 1.08 to trade at $37.65 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.21% to 1.5008, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.7282.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 98.28.
