Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.64% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3), which rose 5.52% or 2.03 points to trade at 38.80 at the close. Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) added 5.35% or 0.37 points to end at 7.29 and Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) was up 4.58% or 1.38 points to 31.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3), which lost 1.62% or 0.34 points to trade at 20.61 in late trade. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 1.44% or 0.25 points to end at 17.15 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) shed 1.16% or 0.12 points to 10.19.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 190 to 102 and 26 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.91% to 32.37 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.62% or 8.25 to $1322.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.14% or 0.51 to hit $44.24 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 3.22% or 4.75 to trade at $142.57 .
USD/BRL was down 0.46% to 3.2567, while EUR/BRL fell 0.96% to 3.5741.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.53% at 97.45.
