Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.48%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK), which rose 3.00% or 13.60 points to trade at 466.55 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 2.63% or 21.05 points to end at 822.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 1.59% or 16.55 points to 1056.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Limited (NS:COAL), which lost 4.43% or 13.55 points to trade at 292.40 in late trade. Bosch Ltd (NS:BOSH) declined 2.73% or 571.60 points to end at 20345.00 and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) shed 2.45% or 17.60 points to 701.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.23% to 466.95, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 1.93% to settle at 1060.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.91% to close at 999.05.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 4.42% to 292.25 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 2.02% to settle at 305.55 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.78% to 181.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1058 to 418 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1705 fell and 885 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.21% to 16.5925.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.36% or 4.15 to $1163.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.09% or 0.58 to hit $52.40 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.56 to trade at $55.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 67.567, while EUR/INR rose 0.33% to 71.8718.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 101.00.
