Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, IT and Auto sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.59% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.51%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 5.93% or 6.35 points to trade at 113.45 at the close. Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) added 4.75% or 3.10 points to end at 68.30 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 4.24% or 50.70 points to 1245.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ), which lost 1.76% or 4.15 points to trade at 231.20 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 1.59% or 5.35 points to end at 330.70 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) shed 1.14% or 5.15 points to 444.75.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which rose 4.60% to 68.20, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 4.29% to settle at 1245.75 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 3.76% to close at 347.85.

The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.50% to 330.95 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.13% to settle at 3681.30 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 0.99% to 445.10 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 900 to 516 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 503 rose and 321 declined, while 19 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.00% to 17.4500.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.46% or 5.60 to $1217.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.41% or 0.15 to hit $36.64 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.10 to trade at $38.57 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.01% to 66.237, while EUR/INR fell 0.46% to 75.2600.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 94.80.
