Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Media sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Software, Construction and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.85% to hit a new 6-month high, while the MDAX index gained 0.99%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 7.92% or 1.210 points to trade at 16.490 at the close. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) added 6.57% or 0.433 points to end at 7.022 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 4.95% or 0.304 points to 6.441 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which lost 0.70% or 0.650 points to trade at 92.620 in late trade. Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) declined 0.28% or 0.300 points to end at 106.550 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) shed 0.26% or 0.220 points to 84.030.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which rose 5.46% to 32.910, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was up 3.95% to settle at 88.410 and Metro AG ST O.N. (DE:MEOG) which gained 3.61% to close at 29.260.
The worst performers were Airbus Group SE (F:AIRG) which was down 0.62% to 59.463 in late trade, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which lost 0.48% to settle at 34.49 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (DE:FPEG_p) which was down 0.48% to 37.340 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 3.62% to 41.965, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 2.77% to settle at 42.980 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which gained 2.31% to close at 3.860.
The worst performers were S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was down 2.79% to 8.725 in late trade, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which lost 2.75% to settle at 40.440 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 2.28% to 41.520 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 549 to 347 and 26 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 5.96% to 16.80 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.62% or 7.25 to $1169.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.97% or 1.02 to hit $50.77 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.87% or 1.03 to trade at $53.91 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.54% to 1.0706, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8446.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.42% at 100.58.
