Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TO:AEM), which rose 11.23% or 3.46 points to trade at 34.28 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 10.63% or 0.42 points to end at 4.37 and Barrick Gold Corporation (TO:ABX) was up 10.38% or 0.82 points to 8.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which lost 8.18% or 0.13 points to trade at 1.46 in late trade. Trinidad Drilling Ltd . (TO:TDG) declined 7.84% or 0.21 points to end at 2.47 and ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) shed 6.86% or 0.12 points to 1.63.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 814 to 556 and 170 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.07% to 24.86.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.85% or 20.90 to $1152.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.42% or 0.63 to hit $45.11 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.14% or 0.55 to trade at $48.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7513, while CAD/EUR fell 0.28% to 0.6694.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 96.11.
