Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Utilities, Telecoms and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.90%, while the MDAX index declined 0.30%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG), which rose 3.05% or 1.360 points to trade at 45.935 at the close. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) added 0.61% or 0.520 points to end at 86.060 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) was up 0.60% or 0.070 points to 11.765 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn), which lost 7.61% or 0.736 points to trade at 8.932 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) declined 4.26% or 0.555 points to end at 12.480 and Linde AG O.N. (XETRA:LING) shed 2.13% or 3.250 points to 149.400.
The top performers on the MDAX were Gagfah SA Nom. (XETRA:GFJG) which rose 3.09% to 15.990, Fraport AG (XETRA:FRAG) which was up 2.88% to settle at 53.920 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (XETRA:DWNG) which gained 1.20% to close at 24.125.
The worst performers were Duerr AG O.N. (XETRA:DUEG) which was down 3.24% to 68.120 in late trade, Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which lost 2.96% to settle at 19.180 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which was down 2.52% to 27.080 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (XETRA:NDXG) which rose 1.29% to 25.425, STRATEC Biomedical AG (XETRA:SBSG) which was up 0.83% to settle at 48.700 and Cancom SE O.N. (XETRA:COKG) which gained 0.80% to close at 32.005.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was down 4.19% to 6.259 in late trade, BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which lost 2.99% to settle at 269.100 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which was down 2.70% to 11.510 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 462 to 205 and 46 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.46% to 27.45.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.78% or 8.60 to $1110.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.13% or 1.38 to hit $45.53 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.09% or 0.99 to trade at $48.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.56% to 1.1270, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7292.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.42% at 95.56.
