if you believe that December price will settle at greater than $18 then you will make money if you hold you spot position till december. if the december price remains above $30, i would guess though that the spot price will reach $18 within the next 2 months.

I was told by my broker the price you see is to stop big swings and volatility... hence the value you see will increment each day by 0.6% to the Dec contract.. so if by December the futures contract is around 30 dollars then you will see the spot price align itself... Get in there!!

the problem with that is if we have a big rally the December price will rise much quicker than this spot price so you could get caught out if it burns your capital but at the end of the day on 22nd November ... the prices will converge, the current gap will close and you should be in profit

Top oil nations pushed to finalise a deal on sweeping oil cuts at G20 talks on Friday to lift prices slammed by the coronavirus crisis with Russia and Saudi Arabia taking the lion's share and the United States showing unusual willingness to help out. Riyadh, Moscow and its allies, which make up the informal OPEC+ group, had forged a pact to curb crude production by the equivalent of 10% of global supplies in marathon talks on Thursday and said they wanted others to cut a further 5%. But efforts to conclude the OPEC+ deal hit the buffers when Mexico insisted it would only cut its output by a quarter of the amount demanded by OPEC+, although Mexico's president said Washington had offered to make extra cuts on his behalf. President Donald Trump, who had threatened Saudi Arabia with oil tariffs if it didn't fix oversupply in the market, said the United States was willing to help Mexico by picking up "some of the slack", adding that Washington expected to be reimbursed.
