The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City quarterly Survey of Manufacturers provides information on current manufacturing activity in the Federal Reserve’s Tenth District (Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, northern New Mexico, and western Missouri). The overall results help tracing longer term trends. The survey monitors about 300 manufacturing plants selected according to geographic distribution, industry mix, and size. The results show changes in several indicators of manufacturing activity, including production and shipments. Moreover, they identify changes in prices of raw materials and finished products that have the potential to feed inflationary pressures. The survey is conducted over the first month of each quarter.
A reading that is stronger than forecast is generally supportive (bullish) for the USD , while a weaker than forecast reading is generally negative (bearish) for the USD.
