Fed Rates: Hike Unlikely Unless Friday’s NFP Numbers Exceed Expectations

Published 28/09/2015, 13:10

Marcus Ashworth – Head of fixed income at Haitong Securities – joined Nick Batsford on Tip TV to discuss the likelihood of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in 2015, implications of the Catalonian elections, and the recent calmness from China.

Fed unlikely to commit until markets have calmed.
With the markets currently predicting a Fed rate hike at around 11%, Marcus Ashworth believes the Fed are attempting to fuel uncertainty and create evenly split sentiment. With the next NFP data due out on Friday, Ashworth doubts that they will contribute to a potential move unless the figures greatly exceed expectations and the US closes in on full employment.
