Could Barclays Return Strength To UK Investment Banking?

David Buik – Senior market commentator at Panmure Gordon – joined Nick Batsford and Zak Mir in the Tip TV studio to discuss rumours around the next Barclays (L:BARC) CEO, as well as the hurdles that the Anheuser-Busch Inbev SA (L:0O1Z) SABMiller (L:SAB) deal still faces.

Will James Staley take the helm at Barclays?

Despite no official confirmation, rumours are circulating that Staley, formerly of JP Morgan, is set to become the new CEO of Barclays. David Buik believes that Staley’s credentials are good, and his appointment would strengthen their investment banking division.

Will SABMiller pass regulation?

Buik believes that a £44-a-share deal has been agreed in principal, but both he and Zak Mir are sceptical of any deal being completed before the deadline. With the potential acquisition still to face regulatory committees, Buik believes the deal will be rejected as it would give InBev too large a market share.
