Charlie Gibson – Head of mining at Edison Research – joined Zak Mir and Tim Price in the Tip TV studio to discuss how Gold and other metals have performed strongly against falling oil prices.

The benefits of cheaper oil.

Gibson discussed how the recent slump in the price of Brent has seen it outperformed by many of the precious metals, with iron ore looking to be the next to overtake in value. He also talked about how cheaper oil could benefit consumers, but the effects are yet to be determined.

Opportunities in the mining majors.

With Glencore (L:GLEN) seemingly on the road to recovery following its share price collapse, Gibson talked about how miners are also benefiting from lower oil prices. He also believes that Randgold (L:RRS) is currently the best miner to be invested in.
