KYIV (Reuters) - Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Black Sea fleet command post near Sevastopol in Crimea on Wednesday morning, the Ukrainian military said.
It gave no further details except to say the attack was successful. Earlier on Wednesday, the Moscow-installed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said a missile attack on the city had been thwarted.
Kyiv has ramped up attacks in the Black Sea and Crimea, which was seized and annexed by Russia in 2014, as Ukrainian forces press on with a nearly four-month-old counteroffensive.
It said a series of attacks on Crimea last week damaged two Russian patrol ships and destroyed a sophisticated air defence system.
A Ukrainian military intelligence official, Andriy Yusov, said in televised comments that Wednesday's attack was a planned work in progress.
Telegram channels in Crimea reported blasts on the peninsula and shared images showing heavy smoke. Reuters could not immediately verify the images.
Razvozhayev said on the Telegram messaging app that Russia had shot down several drones near the city and "repelled a missile attack".
