Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI), which rose 3.15% or 10.750 points to trade at 352.250 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 2.94% or 8.95 points to end at 313.40 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 2.89% or 24.15 points to 859.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which lost 2.04% or 22.25 points to trade at 1067.15 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 1.93% or 13.75 points to end at 698.00 and ACC Ltd (NS:ACC) shed 1.84% or 24.75 points to 1318.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.47% to 314.20, Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was up 2.59% to settle at 2688.00 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.76% to close at 475.75.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.99% to 1068.95 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which lost 1.26% to settle at 251.10 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 1.05% to 568.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 880 to 596 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1578 rose and 1157 declined, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.42% to 15.8900.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.38% or 4.45 to $1166.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $52.43 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.12 to trade at $55.59 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.20% to 68.141, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 71.1181.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 102.95.
